Click here for coverage of the Labor Day, 2009 auction which included some record setting prices
42 lots sold for $1,000 or more with only 3 reaching over $5,000. The top sellers came early in the auction. The highest price was Lot No. 20, at $9,000, a 16.5” tall decanter by J. Hoare in a slight variation (from the patent illustration) of the Crystal City or Wedding Ring Pattern. The next highest price was Lot No. 25, at $8,000, which was a 14” two-part red, cut-to-clear punch bowl described as being in the Dauntless Pattern by J. D. Bergen, though that pattern is also shown in the Val St. Lambert catalog, so its maker is unconfirmed. ![]()
The
third highest priced piece was Lot No. 15, at $6,400, which was for a pair of
tall (17.5” and 15.5”) very well cut decanters with large steeple stoppers.
There were 2 lots that sold between $4,000 and $5,000, 3 lots between $3,000 and $4,000, 12 lots between $2,000 and $3,000 and 22 lots between $1,000 and $2,000, with the remaining 359 glass lots selling for an average of $275 each. Bidding was brisk and spirited and every purchaser went home with their treasure or were having it shipped to them. Woody Auction does not charge a buyer’s premium so all prices reported are the total cost of the piece purchased. Almost the entire Woody family was present with Jason leading the auctioneering. A pizza lunch was provided by Woody. The next auction will be held Saturday, August 28th.
