The Carolinas ’ Chapter

The Carolinas Chapter of the ACGA was formed in 1993.  Our members are located in North and South Carolina , eastern Tennessee , and southern Virginia .

We usually have four meetings a year – three at members’ homes, and one at the annual ACGA Convention.  We move the meeting sites around our area so members can visit the different parts of our geographic territory and have at least one or two meeting each year fairly close to their homes.  Two meetings are held in the first half of the year, one in July at the annual Convention, and one in the fall.  Our meetings at the homes of members are held on Saturdays and are coordinated with special events such as antique shows, museum visits and other special events whenever possible.  The programs are focused on the educational subjects our members are most interested in learning more about, and are presented by members of the Chapter or invited speakers.  Even though the programs are the focal point of the meetings, the social time is really the highlight because it allows us to visit with other collectors, to exchange stories about the latest find, to share experiences, to get answers to our questions, and most especially to see and admire the varied collections of members.

The Carolinas Chapter hosted the very successful 2002 ACGA Convention in Greenville , SC , and is currently preparing to sponsor an exhibition of American Brilliant Period cut glass at The Mint Museum in Charlotte , NC in 2008.  The exhibition is a part of the Chapter’s goal to help expose this relatively unknown, wonderful American art form to the public and thereby help create an increased interest in and appreciation of American Brilliant Period cut glass.

We are extremely fortunate to have one of the best, if not the best, American Brilliant Period cut glass museums in our midst.  The Museum of American Cut and Engraved Glass is located in Highlands , NC, and is a must visit for anyone who likes cut glass.  The Chapter has periodic meetings in Highlands so that we can see the latest additions to a remarkable collection and display of some of the most rare and unusual pieces of cut glass to be found.

Expand your horizons and improve your resources -- come join us and make new friends with others who share your fascination with and love of American Brilliant Period cut glass.  It makes no difference whether you are a novice or an experienced collector; we can all learn more from each other in a fun-filled environment surrounded by brilliant glass.  Our annual dues are $10 for individuals and $20 for couples.  For those who join during the year, the dues are pro-rated; we also waive the first-year Chapter dues for new ACGA members.

To request a membership application and get on our mailing list, please contact our chapter secretary, Jim Graves at JimNClaire@highstream.net or 61 Banner Farm Road , Horse Shoe, NC 28742-9702.  Remember, you must be a member of ACGA to belong to one of the regional ACGA chapters.
